Convergence Vision Statement

Since media consumers increasingly demand information that utilizes new technologies and more personalized delivery systems, Truman State University’s journalism community is committed to news reporting and production practices in the emergent and dynamic environment of cross-platform media.  Recognizing intensifying challenges facing the news industry, Truman exposes students to a model of convergence that values the enduring tenets of journalism essential to citizenship and democracy while also investigating how best to tell and deliver stories—most likely through multiple media platforms.  In this manner, the combined resources of the Truman Media Network (TMN), when possible, stress comprehensive and complementary storytelling that expands audiences, but which also maintains the integrity of distinctive TMN venues: The Index, KTRM, News 36 and Detours.  Here's what students say about
convergence.
