Detours Recognized With National Award
Detours, a Truman Media Network (TMN) publication, received a 2006 Magazine Pacemaker Award at the 86th Annual Associated Collegiate Press/College Media Advisers national convention in Washington D.C. October 24-28, 2007.

Awards went to winners of several categories, including: Magazine Pacemaker, Newspaper Pacemaker, Online Pacemaker, Yearbook Pacemaker, and Convention Best of Show.  The ACP Pacemaker Competition began in 1927 and is one of the highest honors for student journalism.

Detours is Truman State University’s student-produced magazine that serves as a travel guide to the Midwest.  Detours’ staff consists of about 25 students and its stories focus on the tri-state area of Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri.  Editor in Chief Prajwal Sharma lead the award winning 2005-2006 Detours staff in many changes to the magazine. The changes of this hardworking staff include a redesign of the magazine, the inclusion of a story from outside the tri-state area, and the addition of a photo contest.  Since its 1996 debut, Detours has also won the Apple Award for the best general interest magazine at a four-year college in both 2006 and 2007 and a 2002 first-place Mark of Excellence Award for best student magazine.

The award not only recognizes Detours as a substantial magazine in student journalism, but also the work of the Truman Media Network, of which Detours is a part.

Members of TMN include: The Index weekly newspaper; KTRM (FM); and News36.
